Gero Urso è nato a Caltanissetta nel 1945. Ma da moltissimi anni vive e opera a Milano.

Si caratterizza per un Naïf ironico che sconfina nella satira, con l’estro pungente dell’allegoria, uno strale espresso senza malizia, ma arguto .

Gero Urso ha operato per molti anni come responsabile della Comunicazione delle FFSS, curando tutti quegli aspetti, dalla strategia al planning, dal copywriter al layout dei bozzetti, dalla gestione informatica alla distribuzione… che oggi sono affidati ad agenzie multinazionali di specialisti dai budget milionari.

In questo suo ruolo ha realizzato centinaia di manifesti che hanno segnato l’immagine delle Ferrovie. Una immagine che già una quindicina d’anni fa anticipava quella “famigliarizzazione” del grande moloch statale che ancora deve completarsi, forse perché non siamo mai del tutto soddisfatti della umanizzazione che ci viene esibita dal personale statale e dalle strutture competenti.

Gero Urso è un artista la cui notorietà ha varcato da tempo i confini nazionali. Le sue opere si trovano presso importanti collezioni pubbliche e private. Sono centinaia le mostre personali che lui ha allestito in Italia e all’estero. Un’attività instancabile che ha trovato sbocco anche in un’importante promozione culturale condotta con la sua Galleria Art Action di Bresso. "La più piccola galleria del mondo", così come la definisce.

Grazie a una personale assimilazione di tutte le tecniche dell’arte contemporanea, Gero è riuscito a sviluppare un linguaggio popolare, ma non ingenuo, che gli consente di rendere con naturale freschezza il mondo della gente comune, così come di cogliere con fine arguzia l'essenza di scene della vita di tutti i giorni, rappresentate nelle vignette realizzate per i giornali della cronaca milanese.

Gero Urso, dietro la sua apparente semplicità naif, rivela una profonda capacità introspettiva in grado di restituirci la vitalità intima delle creature che lui ama. E proprio questo senso di credibilità cercata, anzi pretesa, in queste creature che sta l’elemento più vitale della sua pittura.

Lo sguardo dei suoi personaggi sono lo specchio dell'anima che Gero riesce a ricreare in loro. Uno sguardo inconfondibile, nella loro semplicità, eppure tale da restituirci una varietà infinita di stati d'animo.

Una vita nascosta che l’artista riesce a far riaffiorare anche nei particolari più piccoli e apparentemente modesti, non solo nelle persone ma anche negli animali.

Nei gatti in particolare. Più di una volta infatti lui ha detto che preferisce i gatti agli uomini, e pure alle donne! Questo artista ama circondarsi della compagnia di questo animale che rappresenta una sorta di inconscio alter ego. Nel gatto Gero rappresenta, in un certo senso, le molteplici sfaccettature della propria anima ingenua e allo stesso tempo ironica. In effetti potremmo direi che a questi animali di umano non manca nulla, e se vogliamo dirla tutto, hanno pure un qualcosa di più... una ingenua bontà dal carattere quasi angelico.

Gero Urso was born in Caltanissetta in 1945. But since many years he lives and works in Milan.

His style is characterized by an ironic Naive bordering on satire, with the pungent inspiration allegory, an arrow expressed without malice, but witty .

Gero Urso operated for many years as Head of Communication of the Italian Railway, taking care of all aspects, from strategy to planning, from copywriter to the layout of the sketches, from management to distribution ... which today is entrusted to multinational agencies of specialists from millionaires budget.

In this role he produced hundreds of posters that marked the image of Railways. An image that already fifteen years ago anticipated the "familiarization" of large state juggernaut that is yet to be completed, perhaps because we are never completely satisfied with the humanization performed by the Government staff in general.

Gero Urso is an artist whose reputation has gone beyond the national borders. His works are exhibited in important public and private collections. Hundreds of exhibitions set up in Italy and abroad. An intensive activity supported also by the cultural promotion made by his Gallery "Art Action" in Bresso. "The smallest gallery in the world," as he says.

Thanks to a personal assimilation of all the techniques of contemporary art, Gero was able to develop a popular language, but not simply ingenuous, that allows him to represent with natural freshness the world of ordinary people, as well as to grasp with wit the essence of scenes from the every day life, painted in cartoons or the Milan newspapers chronicle.

Gero Urso, behind its apparent simplicity naive, reveals a deep introspective capacity able to return the inner vitality of the creatures he loves. This sense of credibility sought, indeed claim, in these creatures is the most vital element of his painting.

The look of his characters is the mirror that Gero recreated in them. An unmistakable look, in their simplicity, yet as to give us back an endless variety of moods.

A hidden life that the artist manages to resurface even in the smallest details and seemingly modest, not only in people but also in animals.

Especially in the cats. More than once, in fact, he said he prefers cats to men, and even to women!

This artist likes this animal as a kind of unconscious alter ego. Gero sees reflected in the cat the facets of his own soul, naive and ironic at the same time. In fact we could say that in these animals the human being is fully reflected, and in a certain sense, they have also something more ... a naive goodness almost angelic.
