Charlotte Ritzow è una affermata artista di Berlino (1971) da anni operante a Milano. Il suo stile risulta da un felice connubio fra un approccio lineare e spartano di natura diremmo quasi “teutonica” e una predilezione per un calore e una solarità di schietta natura mediterranea.

Di questa artista hanno scritto con toni entusiastici critici come Alessio Calestani e Paolo Levi.

Moltissime sue opere sono state aggiudicate nelle principali case d’asta italiane.

Dopo essere partita da un figurativo tradizionale, Charlotte Ritzow è approdata ad un figurativo-informale che è già di per sé un binomio quanto mai singolare, difficile da concettualizzare e ancor più da realizzare. L’artista è riuscita nell’impresa attingendo ad un ricco bagaglio di energia, oltre che di tecnica, che le ha permesso di trascendere i limiti del singolo oggetto rappresentato.

In effetti più che di un oggetto si tratta di un concetto-oggetto. E proprio in questo sta la bravura dell’artista di far emergere da un semplice elemento una miriade di allusioni e riflessioni che si amplificano fino a diventare un vero e proprio microcosmo.

In particolare su due concetti-oggetti si è concentrata la sua produzione più recente: la chiave e la cerniera. Oggetti che esprimono un messaggio che include anche il proprio contrario: l’apertura e la chiusura.

Prendiamo la chiave… Una piccola galassia di chiavi compone un gioco dialettico di aperture e chiusure orientato ad un mondo che deve essere continuamente scoperto e riscoperto. Un mondo che è connotato dal contesto cromatico in cui le chiavi si collocano… Felicità, malinconia, attesa, speranza… Ma più che a questo nuovo mondo, l’artista si sofferma (e ci ferma) sulla sua soglia, cioè sull’attimo in cui la sua (e la nostra) mano sta per afferrare la chiave… per entrare o uscire, o per una simultaneità di queste azioni. Allusioni e illusioni appunto che concorrono ad affollare il quadro pittorico delineato con scarna ma precisa intelligenza.

Sulle cerniere il meccanismo che scatta è analogo. In questo caso però, ad una atmosfera quasi sospesa e indefinita, subentra soprattutto il senso del confine. E i territori che vengono demarcati risultano non meno misteriosi dei mondi latenti evocati dalle chiavi. La cerniera, che interseca la tela con inconsci richiami alle fenditure di Fontana, apre e chiude, allo stesso tempo, nuovi domini che, pur chiaramente definiti, non perdono affatto ai nostri occhi, anzi accrescono, la loro ineffabilità.

In che territori ci stiamo avventurando? Cosa stiamo lasciando? Qual è il futuro che ci aspetta? Sono queste le domande che suscitano nell’osservatore le opere di Charlotte Ritzow. Questioni che si impongono con la forza della semplicità di chi ha intrapreso il proprio cammino ben cosciente verso ciò che serve all’umanità.

Charlotte Ritzow is an established artist, born in Berlin (1971), who operated also in Milan for many years. Her style is a successful combination of linear and spartan (almost "Teutonic" ) approach together with an attitude to warmth of Mediterranean nature.

Many of her works had been auctioned in major Italian auction houses.

After being started from a traditional figurative, Charlotte Ritzow landed to a figurative-informal which is already in itself a binomial rather singular, difficult to conceptualize and even more to achieve.

The artist has succeeded based on a wealth of energy, as well as technique, which allowed her to transcend the limits of the single object represented.

In fact more than an object it is a concept-object. And indeed the artist managed, from a simple element, to make evident myriad allusions and reflections that are amplified to become a real microcosm.

In particular her most recent production has been focused on two concepts-objects : the key and the hinge.

Objects expressing a message that also includes its own opposite: the opening and closing.

Let us see the key ... A small galaxy of keys composes a dialectical play of openings and closings oriented to a world that must be continually discovered and rediscovered. A world characterized by chromatic context in which the keys are placed ... Happiness, sadness, waiting, hope ... But more than this new world, the artist dwells (and stops there) on the doorstep, where her (and our) hand is about to grab the key ... to enter or exit, or for a simultaneity of these actions.

Allusions and illusions precisely that contribute to crowd the pictorial framework outlined by sparse but precise intelligence.

For the hinge the mechanism is similar. In this case, however, an almost suspended atmosphere and indefinite takes over the sense of the border. And the lands that are demarcated are no less mysterious than the worlds evoked by the keys. The hinge, which intersects the canvas with unconscious references to Fontana slits, opens and closes at the same time, new domains which, although clearly defined, do not lose at all in our eyes, indeed increase, their ineffability.

In what areas are we venturing? What are we leaving? What is the future that awaits us? These are the questions that the works of Charlotte Ritzow arouse in the observer. Issues that impose themselves by the force of simplicity of those who have undertaken their own path, well aware of the humanity needs.
